in-town & longfellow camps - Portland
In-Town Camp (full day)
Come for one week, a few weeks, or the whole summer! Our full-day camp, based at the Greater Portland Branch, for ages 5-12 years, takes advantage of the great resources in our community, including trips to local beaches, parks, and attractions, plus the Y’s gym, pool, art studio, and squash courts. We’ll fill our days with fun and excitement, including arts and crafts, games, activities, and swim lessons, plus traditional camp team-building favorites.
Thanks to our wonderful partners, In-Town Camp participates in the Summer Food Program. All campers are provided with a healthy and delicious lunch daily.
Longfellow Camp (half day)
Located at Longfellow School in Portland, this In-Town Camp satellite offers a half-day camp experience during weeks 3 – 6. Each week follows the same theme as In-Town Camp, and includes use of Longfellow’s gymnasium, library, and playground. Transportation is not provided and this camp does not take field trips. Children in Longfellow Camp's morning session are provided lunch daily through the Summer Food Program.
Specialty Camps (full day)
The Greater Portland Branch will also offer special-interest camps in Art, Theater, and Dance during select weeks throughout the summer. All campers are provided with a healthy and delicious lunch daily through the Summer Food Program.
Overnight at the Y!
Here’s your chance to try an overnight with the Y’s Summertime Sleepover! Must be enrolled in camp the same week.

Financial Assistance & State Subsidy/Voucher Programs
At the Y, we believe all kids should have the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve through programs like camp. That’s why we are committed to serving everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Financial assistance is available, using a sliding scale based on household income. No one is turned away, so please ask! We also accept Aspire and other State subsidies and vouchers. For more information, please click here.
It is only through the generous support of individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community that we are able to provide this need-based financial assistance. Because of their generosity, the YMCA of Southern Maine provided more than $1.2 million in financial assistance and program support to children last year, giving more children access to summer camp and other youth development programs that nurture their potential.
Please make all checks payable to: YMCA of Southern Maine
Please remember, until all required forms are completed and submitted, and required payments are made, your camp session is not secured. A $50 deposit per week is required to hold your camper's spot (non-refundable, non-transferable). This deposit will be applied to the cost of the camp. One child per form. Please complete all sections neatly.
Weekly balances are due in full the Wednesday before camp starts through an automatic draft payment (credit card or checking account). If an automatic payment is not possible, please contact the Camp Director. We want to work with all families and will not turn a child away due to financial need.
Checks, credit card payments, and bank account drafts returned to us by the bank will incur a $20 fee. If your payment is returned to us, all future payments must be made with cash, money order, or cashier's check.
Please contact the Camp Director with any questions.
