In-Town Camps

Greater Portland Branch, Portland

Come for one week, a few weeks, or the whole summer! Our full-day camp, based at the Greater Portland Branch, for ages 5-12 years, takes advantage of the great resources in our community, including trips to local beaches, parks, and attractions, plus the Y’s gym, pool, art studio, and squash courts. We’ll fill our days with fun and excitement, including arts and crafts, games, activities, and swim lessons, plus traditional camp team-building favorites.

The Greater Portland Branch will also offer special-interest camps in Art, Theater, Dance, Saddles & Swim, and teen leadership opportunities during select weeks throughout the summer.

Thanks to our wonderful partners, In-Town Camp participates in the Summer Food Program. All campers are provided with a healthy and delicious lunch daily.


We understand that many parents need a safe, enriching place for their children outside of regular camp hours (9:00 am - 4:00 pm). Extended care is provided at no additional charge from 7:30 - 9:00 am and 4:00 - 5:30 pm.

Register for seven weeks or more,  receive $10 off each week.


Weekly fees reduced by $10 per session per child for the second and every subsequent child from the same family attending the same camp session.

EXAMPLE: 1st child = $215; 2nd child = $205; 3rd child = $205


Financial Assistance & State Subsidy/Voucher Programs

At the Y, we believe all kids should have the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve through programs like camp. That’s why we are committed to serving everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Financial assistance is available, using a sliding scale based on household income. No one is turned away, so please ask!

It is only through the generous support of individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community that we are able to provide this need-based financial assistance. Because of their generosity, the YMCA of Southern Maine provided more than $1.2 million in financial assistance and program support to children last year, giving more children access to summer camp and other youth development programs that nurture their potential.

We also accept Aspire and other State subsidies and vouchers.

We want to make sure every child has the opportunity to attend our programs, and that every family can do so without burden. Our Y Financial Assistance program and the State Subsidy/Voucher programs both provide for this opportunity. We are happy to help you in your decision making by discussing your options and answering any questions. The Y's sliding scale is available so you can determine roughly where you may fall. You can also review information on the various subsidy programs and their qualifications. 

The Y Financial Assistance serves a broader group of families, with fewer qualifications to meet. However, for families who do qualify, State Subsidy/Voucher programs often result in a lower cost per week of care. We will support your family through either process, whichever is right for your needs.

Please make all checks payable to:  YMCA of Southern Maine

Please remember, until all required forms are completed and submitted, and required payments are made, your camp session is not secured.  A $50 deposit per week is required to hold your camper's spot (non-refundable, non-transferable).  This deposit will be applied to the cost of the camp.  There is also a one-time, $15 registration fee per child (non-refundable, non-transferable. This fee is waived for children who are YMCA of Southern Maine members).  One child per form.  Please complete all sections neatly.

Weekly balances are due in full the Wednesday before camp starts through an automatic draft payment (credit card or checking account).  If an automatic payment is not possible, please contact the Camp Director.  We want to work with all families and will not turn a child away due to financial need.

Checks, credit card payments, and bank account drafts returned to us by the bank will incur a $20 fee.  If your payment is returned to us, all future payments must be made with cash, money order, or cashier's check.
