Adult Swim Lessons

We offer group lessons for all swimmers from the beginning adult swimmer who is not confident in the water, to the advanced swimmer looking for help with their technique.

Beginner: The goal of this lesson is to increase confidence and basic water skills including breath control, floating, swimming on front and back, treading water, and water safety.

Intermediate: The goal of this swim lesson is to increase your basic swim stroke techniques. You will develop stroke skills, learn body position, and rotary breathing. You should be able to swim a length of the pool confidently.

Advanced: The goal of this swim lesson is to work toward perfecting your stroke technique. You will develop strokes further, master body position, and learn flip turns. Workout plans can be developed in this class.

NOTE:  Adult Swim Lessons are only offered at our Casco Bay and Portland branches.

Through a Swimming Saves Live grant, we offer free, volunteer-led swim lessons at our Casco Bay Branch to adults with little-to-no experience. This program dramatically changes how many feel about going in the water. Membership to the Y is not required for this free weekly program, but you must register in advance.

The Swimming Saves Lives Foundation is a charitable arm of US Masters Swimming, and volunteer instructors from US Masters Swimming. For more information, email Ben St. Cyr at bstcyr@ymcaofsouthernmaine.org or register online. Space is limited.
