Childcare

With so many demands on today’s families, parents need all the support they can get. That’s why child care at the Y is about more than looking after kids. It’s about nurturing their development by providing a safe place to learn foundational skills, develop healthy, trusting relationships and build self-reliance through the Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Childcare

The YMCA builds strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

We work to ensure that kids participating in our programs are interacting with peers and positive role models and are having fun while building their self-esteem and social skills through a variety of organized enrichment activities and free play.

Our basic goals are:

  • To provide a safe, caring, nurturing environment for children;
  • To provide an environment where children are active learners, make choices, have responsibility for their actions and understand limits.
  • To build a trusting relationship between parents, children, and staff where there is mutual respect and frequent communication.
  • To provide an environment that fosters trust and honesty.

By choosing to send your children to programs at the YMCA, you are recognizing the importance of instilling the Y’s core character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in your children.

At the YMCA we recognize that the time families spend together is precious and that for some families it is becoming harder and harder to find quality time and activities. The YMCA of Southern Maine is proud to provide a program that will make it easy for families to enjoy the Y together. Our drop off child care allows parents to utilize our facilities while giving children a place where “kids can be kids”. Prime Time offers areas for free play, reading, and coloring. Take advantage of the synchronized programming and participate in a wellness activity while your child is in Prime Time. Please note, there is a time limit per child, per day.
