The YMCA of Southern Maine has been a strong and positive force in our community for more than 150 years. Today there are 4 branches, Casco Bay, Greater Portland, Northern York County, and Pineland, as well as 12 before and after school sites throughout Cumberland and Northern York Counties.
For every dollar raised, we will give out $2 in financial assistance. You can’t ask for a better return than that!
The YMCA of Southern Maine is for everyone. This year, we expect over $1,400,000 in financial assistance will be provided to 8,000 youth, individuals, and families to ensure participation in all YMCA programs. That means that 1 out of every 3 members receive some form of financial assistance!
The Y relies on a strong volunteer base to provide value based programming and other services for the YMCA. Approximately 800 people volunteer for the YMCA of Southern Maine each year for board roles, program services, and fundraising. We are thankful for the over 11,700 hours generously given from these volunteers.
We serve over 16,000 individuals, who are provided an opportunity to enjoy and participate in a community that is based on the development of healthy relationships. Last year, 29,000 people, including 6,228 children, were involved in active and healthy living activities at the Y.
The Y is providing solutions to social problems in our communities, often in collaboration with other social service providers. We engage with a broad array of community stakeholders to achieve community well-being. Last year alone we partnered with 94 non-profits to better serve our community.
