Nationwide ReciprocitY

Nationwide Membership allows active, full-facility YMCA members to visit participating Ys across the U.S. and Puerto Rico at no extra charge, provided they meet certain usage and eligibility requirements.

  • Eligibility:
    • Must be an active, full facility YMCA member at your “home” YMCA (the local association that enrolled you and collects dues).
    • Program-only memberships (e.g., SilverSneakers, Silver, Fit) are not eligible.
    • Based on individual usage, not the family unit.
  • Usage requirement:
    • On average, at least 50% of your visits must be to your home YMCA.
    • If you’ll be away for more than 28 days or won’t use your home Y at least 50% of the time, you must place your home Y membership on hold or cancel it and join the Y where you’ll be living.
  • Visiting other Ys:
    • Check ymca.net before traveling to confirm the Y participates in Nationwide Membership (over 2,500 locations).
    • Bring a valid YMCA membership card and photo ID.
    • You’ll need to sign a waiver when visiting other Ys.
  • Limits & restrictions:
    • No blackout periods or restrictions on your home Y’s participation. (Some Ys (e.g., Darien, Westport, New Canaan, Greenwich) limit visits to 8 per month under their reciprocity agreement).
    • If you want to participate in a YMCA program, you must be a member of the Y where the program is offered.
    • Registered sex offenders are prohibited from participating.
  • Special cases:
    • College students must join the YMCA where their usage is 50% or greater.
    • Group home or agency memberships are not eligible.
